What a musician. Loved "Rapsody in Blue"
I believe all these years after his death rumors are still rampant that George Gershwin was a closeted gay man.
How he would have loved to live today and be open about his sexuality. He was a wonderful musician.

He was indeed a wonderful musician and I love to chill out with his music to unwind, How he would have loved to live today and be open about his sexuality. There are so many people I often think would have been so much happier if they had been free to be themselves. There is still a long way to go, but our society is getting a little fairer.

Have you read about what's going on over in Ukraine?

Yes Woofy I have. Sadly this disgusting behavior is not just unique to the Ukraine, as I'm sure you know. When I said our society I meant the society I am familiar with. I considered saying the UK where it is generally considered bigoted to openly insult anyone because of their sexuality, but didn't because it's far from perfect. I also said we have a long way to go. There is still hidden bigotry and moronic thugs that openly attack anyone that's different. We also some charmless politicians and religious individuals, who like to spout what they think of the GLBT community, thankfully we don't have that many politicians who like to mix their ideas of religion with their politics. Is it better than it was 80 years ago for gay men and women? Yes I think it is. While many people still feel they can't come out of the closet, there is greater support than there was for those who do come out. Is our society perfect, completely fair and equal? No, far from it, but we are on the right road and hopefully we will all one day live in a world where we can discuss a person without needing to mention their sexuality or race or religion, somehow I think I'll never be around to see it.

I hope that you are right about all that, Mrs. V. In my country we have a system of "checks and balances". Power is divided between the three branches of government. In this way, the "mistakes" of one branch are meant to be checked and balanced by the other branches. For me, the last great bastion of individual human rights lies with the judicial branch. The legislative branch (Congress) will make its laws, the executive branch (President) will execute those laws, but it will always be the judicial branch (courts) that determine the constitutionality of those laws. That is very important in issues like gender preference and gay marriage. The American people are divided on these issues, with certain states leaning in one direction and other states leaning toward the other. Ultimately, the issues will go before the Supreme Court and they will determine the issues one way or the other. My own family evidences this division. There are five of us still alive. My two brothers are conservative Republicans. My mother, my sister and I are liberal Democrats. But though we've had some heated political discussions, we all get along with each other and come together when the chips are down. Let's hope that the country as a whole will follow the same path when the other shoe drops.
