WW2 Liquid Stockings

As I'm sure most of you know, during WW2 many young women were in despair as Nylon was rationed.



Women in the UK opted to use weak gravy and cold tea to paint their legs, while in the US many women opted for cosemetic liquid stockings.

If memory serves me correctly, there's a scene in the film "Hope and Glory" where Sammi Davis is having lines drawn up the back of her legs to simulate stockings. (But why bother with nylons if you can get silk?)

While I knew about ladies in the UK resorting to using gravy and tea on their legs, I was not aware of the wide variety of products designed for this purpose. It was really interesting to see the Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein ads. Thank you so much for this great post!
