I asked this question a long time ago and I think I gave some ridiculous answers so I just thought I would ask it again and this time actually THINK before I responded.
But has there ever been a film/ TV/ stage role that you've seen and thought, hmmm that would have suited Dwight down to the ground and if so what?
I've been going through a Jane Austen phase of late and while watching Pride and Prejudice, I thought Dwight would make an excellent Mr Collins- ok not the most fanciable of roles but it is funny and I think a brilliant role for an actor to tackle.

I think your choice here is excellent. I have to admit that every time I am faced with a question such as this I always, always draw a huge blank! Later on I will inevitably think of something intelligent to say, but when I am on the spot I always fail. That said, I will still attempt to answer the question:)
I wish Dwight would have been in "Dorian Gray". I know that he was supposed to be on stage, but that it did not work out, and I think that it would have been a multi-layered and amazing role for him to tackle. I also think that he would have been excellent in "The invisible man" as the title character. Claude Raines did a wonderful job, but I think that Dwight would have been equally good, if not even a bit better, in the role.
I know that he adored comedy, and would have been excellent in a comedic role. It would have been nice to see him in a Marx brother's film, even in a small way. I think he would have made a big impression:) As for a starring comedic role, I know that I have had ideas on this in the past, but again I am drawing a blank now! It will come to me after this has been posted, as always:)

Dwight would have made an AMAZING Dorian Gray. I always like the fact he was considered for the role on Broadway because it is such a multifaceted character, he would get some romance plus it indicates that someone thought Dwight was pretty good looking, just wish it came to fruitation.

Although it is a British production, I think Dwight would have made a smashing Doctor Who .

AAAAHHH WISH NOT WHICH. I've heard this nasty rumour circulating that Johnny Depp might be playing the Doctor in a movie version PLEASE, NO! Having said that I think Dr Who would have worked in a 1930's serial format and Dwight would make an excellent Doctor. But how would he play him? As a mad eccentric like Tom Baker, cute & sexy like David Tennant or kinds mysterious and scary like William Hartnell. It's been a while since I've watched the Hartnell episodes so I'm not sure if his sterness is as bad as I recall.

For the love of Heaven NO! Johnny Depp must not play the Doctor!!!! Oh yes, that would definitely work as a 1930's serial! I can see Dwight as a combination of William Hartnell's strength and will and Tom Baker's eccentricity (Jelly Babies, anyone?), paired with Jon Pertwee's dandy sense of dress .

Ooh, and how about also throwing in Christopher Eccleston's complex personality? That would make for one multi-faceted Doctor Dwight ! I have to look at the Hartnell episodes again, I haven't seen them in awhile.

And don't forget Sylvester McCoy's character. Can't you just see Dwight playing this as quirky with a little bit of a dark side.

YES, excellent Limey, Dwight would do that personality some serious justice ! Next to Tom Baker, Sylvester McCoy is my second favorite Doctor .

I'm giving thid thread a bit of a bump, if no one minds, partially because we have more members that might want to add their thoughts but also because I was watching an interview with Andy Serkis about his work on both the new Planet of the Apes film as well as playing Captain Haddock in Tin Tin. Hubby and I were saying he is someone that some people if they saw him as himself might not know he was but he has carved a nice little niche for himself as the leading actor in performance capture and then I thought of Dwight.
In certain respects, Gollum reminds me of Renfield and I wonder if there is any inspiration there either in Serkis's performance or Jackson's direction. I think Dwight would have made a wonderful Gollum though don't think he would have liked all the CGI nonsense of today, preferring a box of make-up and the ability to change his own physique.
I know Serkis got nominated for many awards for his work in LoTR but in all honesty, I thought Gollum would be the role of a lifetime and after the fuss died down you wouldn't hear about him again but actually after the initial success of Orlando Bloom, he's the one that's probably done the most high profiled work and well done to him.
Just wish Dwight had been so fortunate.

I know this would go along with his typecasting of always playing weirdos, but I've always thought had he lived he would have been great as LeRoy in The Bad Seed.

Mrs. V., I totally agree with you about Gollum. This past semester, we were reading The Hobbit[/u] in my Intro to Literature class and I couldn't help but picture Renfield as I was reading "Riddles in the Dark." I brought the similarity up in class and my professor agreed with me. As for me, oh, jeez, I don't know. TeenNick has the 90s Nickelodeon shows on weeknights at 9 ET. I think Dwight would've been perfect on All That, or even just Nickelodeon, since he always wanting to play comedy.

LOL! Now that you mention Keenan & Kel, I think Dwight would've made an excellent Chris. Oh, and I can totally picture Dwight in the Cheese Police skit or hugging The Big Ear of Corn, lol! Or even...Repair Man! man man man man man!
