Over the past few years, Dwight has had an increasingly notable female following online. While I have tried to limit all girly gushy praise to the members only section... and to some extent have failed , this board's membership is still prodimantly female. The other day I was googling Dwight and came across this link: monsterkidclassichorrorforum.yuku.com/topic/34372/Dwiiiiiiiight-Frye-hahahaSo I got to thinking, why? We know that Dwight does have male fans, obviously much of the early horrors fans were men, DFLL was written by men, the initial fan letter was written by a man but then there have been notable female fans as well. But why do you think that Dwight has this new following of female admirers? When we see Renfield, do our protective maternal instincts kick in? Or do we just see that Hollywood's treatment of Dwight was a massive injustice? Or is it merely more women are willing to commit themselves to an online fandom? Seriously I just wondered what everyone else thought, other than saying Dwight was a handsome, talented man. While I'm on the subject, to any male fans of Dwight, please feel free to contribute. This site is meant for ALL Dwight fans!

Very interesting topic Mrs V. I loved the provided link, my "Bad romance" tribute was mentioned in it *LOL* Obviously, based on the link, Dwight's male fans are fairly clueless to the attraction that his female followers feel. This is understandable, as naturally a guy is not going to be inclined to view Dwight as handsome, but the fact that they seem baffled by it kind of irks me. I think this bewilderment may be the cause behind their sporadic and evasive appearances on Dwight's various fan communities, such as this one. I for one, would like to know why they are baffled. I don't expect them to gush the way that a woman would, but surely they can understand that Dwight was attractive, intelligent, talented, and a good human being. Attributes that any woman would obviously love. I agree that it seems as if females do dominate most fandoms on-line. I have belonged to quite a few in my day, and it is always women who are more willing to commit to on-line communities- to the point were they are more active and involved. I think this may also be the reason why we see more female activity for Dwight as of late, as opposed to male. In the end I do wish that both genders would participate equally, because Dwight fans are intelligent and kind, from all that I have seen, and I feel and I believe that both sides have a lot to bring to the table. The diversity would be great and very interesting to see.

I agree with Luna 100%, it would be interesting to hear from male fans how they feel about Dwight. Plus the fact that Dwight fans simply rock the house . Personally, it's the fact that Dwight was a good, kind, decent human being who loved his faith, his family, and his Country that draws me to his fandom. He was a loving son, who was close to his parents and stayed in touch with them while fulfilling his dream. The fact that he was faithful to Laura (and wore his heart on his sleeve for her for all to see), while working in an industry that seems to encourage adultery, and refused to leave her and Buddy to accept the possibly career reviving role offered to him in The Patriots because of the war going on, speaks volumes of his integrity. That he took the time to make homemade Christmas cards for family and friends shows his warmth and his regard for others. And the fact that he was so dedicated to contributing to the war effort, even though he was too young to join the first one and past the age to join the second, shows how proud he was of his Country. This, to me, is what makes Dwight so lovable and wonderful, and makes me a loyal fan. And yes, I do feel protective of him, Hollywood treated him shabbily. IMHO, the powers that be were too stupid to realize what a treasure they actually had in him, and they could have utilized his talents if they really wanted to. The man could do any role, yet they pigeonholed him. They glorified actors with less than stellar characters off screen, but it is Dwight's legacy in his work and off screen that stands the test of Time. That may sound sappy, but I don't give a duck's behind. I love Dwight for the good man he was, and he deserves a fandom that loves and respects him.

I agree with MM. Dwight was a good person all-around. I'm deeply religious myself and I love seeing other people who are as deeply religious as me, no matter what faith. To me, Dwight was the typical All-American boy before the Beach Boys. I love him not only because he's cute, but because God just doesn't make men like him anymore.
