Nice review, Liz. I really enjoyed The Artist. Jean Dujardin always seems so charming, I loved his acceptance speech at the BAFTAs.

I finally got around to watching this, after my husband suggested we give it a go. Now this was a big deal because with the exception of Nosferatu, my husband never wants to watch silent films. On the whole I enjoyed it. Michel Hazanavicius really captured the feel of a silent movie and not just because there's no sound (well mostly no sound ). I really liked some of the wide shots, made me think I was watching "It" or one of the silent romances from the late 20's. Also I thought everone gave good performances, with the possible exception of Malcolm McDowell, who just seemed a bit unnecessary. Does it deserve to be the second silent film to ever win the Academy Award? Well, I don't know, I haven't actually watched the others but the film was nice and simple, which is something that many of movies of today aren't. Too many clever, yet quite boring plots. While watching this I didn't get the impression that Hazanavicius was marketing this for the Academy (another modern trend) so the film gets my vote for that alone.
