I am starting this thread because we always end up drifting onto this subject. Might be because I'm Scottish, but I'm sure I don't always start it. Soooo, if anyone wants to discuss anything TV wise and from these shores (probably nothing from the past ten or so years) then feel free to do it here.
I thought of this because I just got around to watching the stuff I recorded from Father Ted night, a while ago and I know there are fans on here.

Great idea for a thread!
I love Father Ted and my Canadian partner is completely hooked on it. I recorded a wonderful documentary about the show called Small, Far Away a while ago which featured the writers and cast members.
Here is part of the documentary -

Does anyone remember a Scottish TV show from the mid 90s called The High Life? It starred Alan Cumming and had the catchphrase 'Oh deary me!'. I don't think it ran for that long but I remember loving it as a teenager.

That documentary was on as part of Father Ted night. It was very good, just missing Mrs Doyle. It' nice to see that much of the locations pretty much look the same.
And yes, Violet, I remember . It's the first thing I remember Alan Cumming in. Hubby has the DVD of it, though we haven't watched it for ages!
About ten years ago, when I was doing something for thr Edinburgh Fringe, Hubby and I accidently gate-crashed Forbes Masson's (the other guy's birthday party). I was working upstairs and we ended up in the pub below, wondering why we were surrounded by TV people and then out came the cake.

Things are different now that we have BBCAmerica. In the past, we had to rely on distributors like Lionheart, ITV and Thames, so we got a weird mix of shows: a lot of period pieces that ended up on our "Masterpiece Theater", a lot of crime dramas, and a lot of Britcoms. But it still represented less than 5% of the British TV offerings. Now we have the opposite problems. BBCAmerica gives us a lot more shows, but they're all produced by the BBC. It's gotten harder and harder to find any independent productions. And now that Britain has so many cable options, the BBC output represents a much smaller percentage of the total (albeit a better quality percentage). Ironically, the best place to find independent British programming these days is via YouTube.
