With the great depression gripping the world and the relatively new "talking picture" format, movies became increasingly popular and the 1930's is often considered a golden age of cinema. So, with the exception of Dwight films, what would you consider your favourite films from this decade?

I loved Fredric March in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, plus all of the Laurel & Hardy sound films, DEFINITELY the Three Stooges, Abbott & Costello...
Yeah, but basically all of the classic comedians, but I think Laurel & Hardy are my favorite, with the Three Stooges being a close second.

Anything with the Three Stooges, Red Dust (Clark Gable & Jean Harlow), Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind... And many others I can't think of right now and will kick myself later for not posting....
Oh yeah, Reefer Madness! How could I forget Reefer Madness?!

Oh my God, so many great films- "You can't take it with you", "Red headed woman" "The wizard of Oz" "Gone with the wind" "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" "Mr. Deeds goes to town" ANYTHING with the Marx Brothers, who happen to be my favorite comedy team of that era. "Heroes for sale", "The grapes of wrath" was in 1940, but I will count it because it is so close. There are just SO many and like Leah I will be kicking myself later on for not remembering even more!

I think my favourites would have to be The Public Enemy, Angels with dirty faces, Scarface, A night at the Opera, Dinner at eight, Bringing up Baby, Vampyr, The Black Cat, City Lights... and lots more. There were so many amazing films made in the 1930s.

I know, I actually can't believe some of the tosh on TV in the UK these days. It's difficult to even buy some of the great oldies here, a huge amount of the DVD's in my collection are from the US.

The 1930s produced some of the best and memorable horror films ever! Not just Dracula and Frankenstein, but The Black Cat, The Raven, White Zombie, The Walking Dead, Mystery of the Wax Museum, etc.

The horrors are great from this era. However, the cinema seemed to really explode and every genre has some absolute gems from this period.
