OK, I don't feel too bad asking this now because the majority of members of this board are female and many are actively writing various romantic stories etc so I just wondered while we all think of romantic scenarios involving a certain blue eyed boy, what are our favourite romantic movies? Here's some cheese while you think it over...

I love the cheese graphic *LOL*!
Hmm....this is tough. I always draw a blank when being asked questions such as this, and then later I will inevitably think of a better choice or answer, but off the top of my head I would say Jane Eyre. The version with Orson Welles. I also like Benny and Joon with Johnny Depp. Of course it all depends upon on how you define "romantic movie". I have some films which contain very odd and unorthodox love stories within the plot line, but they are not considered to be "romance films" at all. Along this line we are talking about films like Lord love a duck. Roddy McDowell would have done anything for Tuesday Weld in that movie, so it's pretty lovey to me. Sure he was insane and killing people for her but meh;) That is considered to be dark comedy or social satire though- but I think it still has an element of romance to it. To me, social satire is romantic because it's high minded in ways. But that is a debate for another day. This probably isn't what you were looking for *LOL*!
I also like Stairway to heaven with David Niven. There. That's better:)

Highlander (for Heather and Connor even though they were not the whole focus of the story obviously) Phanton of the Opera (yeah I know a little gothic but still)

I also like Stairway to heaven with David Niven. There. That's better:) Yes Orson Welles made a fantastic Mr Rochester. In his youth he was gorgeous and I love his menacing cynicism in his acting. Joan Fontane is a good Jane Eyre but basically she seemed to constantly repeating the role of Mrs De Winter in most of her post- Rebecca movies. Stairway to Heaven (which we call A Matter of Life and Death here) is an amazing film, so different and sentimental but because all the actors have the stiff British upper lip it doesn't seem to sickly. I think it is often considered one of the best British films ever made and I am a fan of director Michael Powell's other work. Plus I have a special affection for David Niven, when I was a kid I read his book "The Moon is a Balloon" and it was really funny. I don't know Lord Love A Duck but I'll check it oot as it sounds interesting. I am not into conventional romances at all. Chick Flix urrrggghhh! Though i think some movies are unfairly labelled under that bracket However I am interested in seeing what inspires us ladies, especially the authors... other than our lovely Dwight, of course.

I have to say I really like Brief Encounter. I never got it when I was younger but as I've got older I've really began to appreciate it and it's the one film that has two main characters who are happily married to others but the viewer can still sympathise with them evern when they fall for someone else and though they are unfaithful, you do understand and empathise with that deep love. However some peole find it difficult to watch because it is terribly British.
I also loved Amelie. It's quirky and cute and I think they are not enough love stories about shy people.

I think Indecent Proposal was pretty swoon-worthy. I loved the plot too.

Okay, the one that does it for me is The Sheik, with Rudolph Valentino (although I like to imagine Dwight in that role *FAINTS*). I also like Son of the Sheik, and Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast (1946).

I hate to admit this to you but I've never seen a Valentino film I know I should as I really love early cinema and everytime I go to the bathroom at my parents house and there is a poster of Son of the Sheik on the wall and I think, I really need to get around to watching a Valentino film but never do. Will make a point of watching one as soon as possible.

I love red Dust with Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Mary Astor. Still waiting for that to be released on DVD.
I also love the aforementioned The Sheik and Benny and Joon. I think I could watch Benny and Joon every day of my life and not get sick of it.
