I suppose to really start this new board, we should go riiiiigggghhht back to the beginning, when Hollywood was nothing more than a garden that grew oranges.
This video (with narration) is Le Royaume De Fées (The Fairy Kingdom) and is directed by early master Georges Melies. Inspired by The Sleeping Beauty and made in 1903, The Firy Kingdom is the first of Melies films to exceed 300 metres (about 15 mins of screen time). It tells the story of Princess Azurine, who is engaged to Prince Bel Azor in the presence of fairies. But they have forgotton to invite the witch, who has the princess kidnapped. Bel Al Azor, searching for hgere, is shipwrecked and finds himself in Neptune's kingdom before he manages to kill the witch and rescue Azurine, whom he finally marries. RARE among the work of the director of this time, Le Royaume De Fées includes a scene shot outdoors, in the gardens of Montreuil, with a real horse.
