Well, then he would've been a freak!

I think he would've probably played Wallace Ford's part as the circus clown. Browning used real sideshow freaks. No elaborate makeup.

Okay...what if Dwight had actually accepted the role of Alexander Hamilton from The Patriots? What if he had been able to transfer from Douglas to a company in NY, so he could still do his patriotic duty while fulfilling a patriotic role? I've never looked up how successful The Patriots was MM, so it's hard to say. If it was a success, then it would be good to think that Dwight would have relocated back to the East Coast long term. How old was Buddy at this point... 12,13? I think Dwight's decision to reject The Patriots was not just down to fulfiling his patriotic duty, but by now both Laura and Buddy were pretty settled and he might not wanted to interupt Buddy's schooling. This was obviously an issue when Laura latterly remarried and didn't actually live with her husband in Maine for a year, until Buddy finished High School. I know he was older at this point, but Dwight might have had similar issues.

Let's try another one. "What if Dwight was supposed to play Fritz as a mute?" When Robert Florey was being considered as the director for Frankenstein, he planned on having the character of Fritz as a mute. IMHO, I think Dwight would still be phenomenal . I agree.

Are there any good photos of Laura? I can't really find any. Try this one. "What if Dwight was cast in the movie Freaks?" This is a video I made year ago with some good photos of Laura. Sadly I don't have any on my laptop now. www.metacafe.com/watch/2489674/dwight_and_laura_frye/

Regarding Freaks. Well, if Dwight appeared in it, like you I guess he would have played the Wallace Ford role. It's been a while since I watched the film, but if memory serves Wallace had a romantic subplot. As Dwight was more boyish and helleva lot better looking than Ford (no offence to the guy) I hope someone would see that he was capable of a romantic, good guy role.

I haven't watched the film in a while either (it's one of my favorites though), but I remember really liking Wallace Ford's character. I won't argue the handsome quality of the two actors because if memory serves me correct, I'm still straight.

It was quoted as "...a very respected hit, running 172 performances and winning the Critics Circle Prize for Best Play." Buddy would be 12 at that point. I agree, it would not have been that easy, nor really fair to uproot Buddy especially. I'm sure Dwight, like you said, had similar issues and family came first with him.

I think Dwight would've been great in a period piece about the Revolutionary War.
