I discovered this show during my absence and I love it! The guy from The Artist, Jean Dujardin, plays the guy. This show ran from 1999-2003. It's a great way for me to work on my French.

This seems so familiar! It's nice and different that someone starting out on French TV (which has somewhat of a bad reputation) has gone on to star in a massive movie and win the Academy Award. I hope this isn't a flash in the pan and that he gets further opportunities.

Why does French TV have a bad rep, Carie?

It just has. French Cinema is considered wonderful and innovative but sadly the TV generally is poor. I used to regularly purchase broadcast magazines and much of mainland Europe's TV wasn't consider that great. When I have travelled to France, as well as Denmark and Holland, the majority of the TV seemed to consist of old episodes of "Saved by the Bell" and "Taggart". Having said that, I believe the tide is changing and lately programs such as "Spiral" has not only been an international hit but has recieved great critical acclaim, which it deserved because it was great.
