Having a little spare money after christmas I decided to treat myself and by the Dracula Universal Horror Script series. I haven't had the chance of reading it, because I know there's more dialogue than in the finished film, especially from Renfield but after a quick flick through I am a bit disapointed in the lack of Dwight information, we've seem all the photos before and there's not much in the way of information about him, at this stage in our fandom, it's becoming so difficult to find anything new. The only thing that I didn't recognise was a picture from an article, not sure if it' s new or not but thought I would share anyway... sorry this was the best I could as it is tiny and not that clear in the book.

That is a very handsome picture of Dwight. Unless something new comes along, or his relatives contribute any new photos or info, it is becoming a bit scarce to find anything on him.
And may I say, a Happy Birthday to you, Mrs. V., XOXO.

Well I dug this out the other day and I'm not that happy as a Dwight fan. Other than the photo of Dwight there is nothing. I mean nothing, he is hardly mentioned and they made the error of saying that Dwight was signed from the stage version of Dracula. The book has some interesting press coverage for newspapers to include with biographies and interviews, however it focuses on Bela (trying to push him as a big new star), David "Woody" Manners and Helen Chandler (god knows why) and even Frances Dade- there is teeny piece of Dwight publicity, saying he had recently appeared in Rope End . I've come to the conclusion that Dwight's film career was doomed before had really even started.

A deleted scene from the finished film, with Dracula disposing of Renfield's belongings. The following is from Carl Laemmle Jr's notes of what should be changed in the production script. Scene A-42- Renfield is left in castle grounds - the door opens with no one there- all i shot from insidethe door using a long tunnel -like- Hall- Truck shot. Comments - This might be a cumbersome shot if you are going to use the columns and catacombs from the Phantom.Scene A-69- Renfield has fallen asleep in the den against DRacula's warnings. The three vampire women find Renfield and their hands are seen in close-up tearing open his shirt and biting him on the neck. Comments- Maybe eliminate! Women vampires very gruesome... What would I give to see have seen that! Scene B-14- The wreck of the Varna has just arrived at the harbor and the captain is found dead at the wheel. Comments- What happened to the crew? Expalin in dialog? How? ... Dracula should only go for women and not men.Scene B-16- Renfield is discovered in the hold of the ship... Renfield is eating flies off a lump of sugar. Comments- Awful strong. Following in the same scene the men burst in and find Renfield who takes his attention off the fly and says to the dock warden, "I almost had him and now you have frightened away." He then sees another fly, licks his lips and sneaks towrad it to the horror of the other men. Comments- Sequence not right- What happened to Dracula? Can eliminate this sequence...Laemle also noted that he wanted the "To really die- to be really dead" sequence cut- which obviously wasn't and also the term "looney" eliminated.
