So who else here felt a bit "ripped off" by this particular Dwight Frye film?
The film is only available through the purchase of a multi-movie pack which was quite expensive, and while I am always happy to have any Dwight- his film appearances are so difficult to find in many instances- I still couldn't help feeling a bit let down by his utter lack of dialogue (only one line) and his all too brief screen time. With a character name like "The Jackal" I was hoping for a role that might have been more substantial. Substantial enough to highlight Dwight's acting chops. He did an excellent job skulking about on the edge of the scenery, as always, but I still wanted more when I purchased this.
At any rate, here is a clip of the film which encompasses Dwight's total time on screen. Overall it wasn't a bad production, it has a bit of the "Beau Geste" flavor to it, but if you're only looking to see Dwight then watch this clip and pass on the pack the film comes in. It's pricey and not worth it if you're only purchasing for Dwight alone.

I don't think I have ever gone from utter joy and excitement to complete disapointment so quickly, after watching this movie. So, there is a very nice scene which, the ladies on here are familar with and THEN, not much. It's nice to see Dwight fight... he loses but it's nice to see anyway but it's nice to see but that's about it.
It wasn't only the price but we were looking forward to it's release for months. only for it to be a bit mey! In all honesty, it is probably better as a film than some of things that Dwight appeared in but very annoying that he wasn't given much else to do.

I agree with you Ladies, this was a let-down of the worst kind. Not to mention insulting to Dwight-here was a man who was described as the heir apparent to John Barrymore, only to see him wind up in nothing more than a bit part (to go along with the other bit parts ). He deserved better. The only saving grace is that particular scene, and seeing him in uniform. Golly, he sure knows how to wear one, and how to work it .

I agree completely, the price was bad but the anticipation was worse. Then they delayed the release by an additional month! It was better than some of the films Dwight worked in, but he definitely deserved more screen time.

I agree with you, girls. I've never seen this movie until just now with that clip, and it was kinda sad to see him get yet ANOTHER bit part, but on the other hand, it was kinda cool to see him as a villain.

He plays a villian a lot actually!

Hah! Truth! In fact, I read somewhere that he was an iconic "villain." (Well, gangsters are villains in general, so...)

Well, it's easy to see Dwight as NOT being a villian. Not because he couldn't make you believe that he was one, his acting was that amazing. But because we know so much about him and adore him so that it is easy at times to look at him through the eyes of love even when his character may be bad:)
