A wonderful audio clip of Orson engaged in conversation with the legendary HG Wells. HG Wells seems like a really lovely man and appears to think very highly of Orson.

This was Orson's last interview. It was with Merv Griffin and it was filmed in 1985. Orson died hours after this interview was filmed, at the age of 70. I believe that sometimes people know the end is close. It is possible that Orson knew his health wasn't good and that he really didn't have much time left. He was usually quite guarded about his private life but in this interview he was very open. He speaks affectionately about his ex-wife, Rita Hayworth. This is a wonderful interview with a fascinating, intelligent and talented man.

I LOVE Orson Welles. Thank you SO much for creating a thread here about him. He was so fiercely independent and had such an incredible sense of humor, not to mention his talent. He has a lot in common with my other film/theatre idols of the moment. I have nothing but respect.

Thank you for creating this thread Violet. I believe it is much deserved. So much has been said about Welles the cinematic genius and I don't want to go against that sentiment because I enjoy so much of his work, but I have to say I really like many of his interviews. He comes across as very intelligent, knowledgeable, but down to earth and personable. He didn't like talking about his movies and when he did, he was very critical. For that reason alone I have respect. Found this photo to add to thread. A colour photo of Orson in Citizen Kane, I believe it is actually to test make-up.

He was an incredibly creative individual and he refused to compromise. His sense of humour was fabulous and he was so witty. I really love watching interviews with Orson, I could listen to him talk all day long. Though I may not agree with everything, I don't share his passion for bullfighting for example, I always listen intently as I feel one can learn so much from that amazing mind of his. He was such a marvellous storyteller too. The first time I encountered Orson I was tiny. I saw him in The Muppet Movie (1979) and there was just something about him. When I got a little older, I realised that the lovely bearded bloke from the Muppet movie was the genius behind so many wonderful films. I quickly become hooked. Have you seen Orson's appearance in that film? Here's the trailer, Orson appears at around 3.20.

It's great to meet another Orson fan as well:) No, I have not seen his appearance in the Muppet movie that you shared, although it looks cute. I grew up on classic cinema, so my first introduction to Orson was through "Kane". It was kind of odd, being a child and trying to absorb the hefty material of that film, but that is how it all started for me:)

This must have been the first thing I would have seen Welles in too.

This is for any Welles fans in the UK. On BBC2 on Easter Monday have dedicated the whole morning to O.W., showing both Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons, as well as a new Talking Pictures documentary.
