I've never seen the photo of Peter with EGR before. ;D Excellent find Violet. I am familiar with the Grant/ Loren photos. I'm guessing this is when they had had a fling. Dear oh dear, looks like Peter maybe falling for Loren's notorious charms. "Beat it Archie, I'm making my move..."  |

If you think about it, though, Goldenberg and Löwenstein had a lot in common. Both were Jewish immigrants from Central Europe. Both were primarily stage actors converted into film stars. They had a similar physical build and both were (strangely, imo) attractive to women.

I've seen plenty of EGR's film but know hee-haw about his private life. He was a lot older than I realised when he first came to America. Also wasn't Edward G Robinson a little less naughtier than Peter?

Also wasn't Edward G Robinson a little less naughtier than Peter? The big difference is that EGR didn't become drug dependent the way Peter did. Also, EGR seems to have been happier in his home life. The fact that EGR spoke English without an accent made it easier for him to get the bigger parts in films, although, as he got older he did drift into a lot of character roles. If Peter was naughty, I suspect it was in a kind of impish manner. Most people would say that he was "charming" with a little tinge of naughtiness thrown in. |
