I didn't want to see this for such a long time, possibly because of it's iconic status and as a blonde, I was quite a bitter, insecure teen that resentfully disagreed with the title. Once I got over myself, I watched the film for research on a book that I was co-working on and I actually enjoyed it. Kudos to Jane Russell as well as Marilyn, IMHO, plus little George Winslow whose gravelly voice cracks me up every time I see him. Here's a link for a tribute magazine I downloaded: vintage-gold.livejournal.com/2867.html

This one's always been one of my favourites! Jane and Marilyn were perfect co-stars; Jane's rendition of "Diamond's" is pretty hilarious. It's one that I watch often enough, love the bright costumes and many of the songs from this movie. There aren't many musicals that contain songs that I actually enjoy greatly but this one is an exception.

Jane and Marilyn were definitely a great double act. Marilyn's sweet naivety and dizziness is a perfect match for Russell's cynicism, yet it is also a sweet relationship because Dorothy is very protective of Lorelei.
As a musical it has a different feel than others, possibly because it's more like a comedy that happens to have a few musical numbers. Plus I like the fact the music is upbeat, more big band than orchestric and sentimental.
