I only wanted to state this because I was finding this empty board a bit annoying. This will not be news to most of the board, especially as several members are also on Peter's wonderful forum here at Proboards but after Dwight, I love Peter and this mainly thanks to another Dwight fan.

Peter is wonderful. An amazing actor who deserves a lot of props, and yes he was a cutie as well so I can definitely see your interest. He also played darker roles, similar to Dwight in a few ways, so it makes perfect sense to me that you would like him as well.
I have a few other fandoms, but were loathe to post about them here because they are FAR removed from Dwight and I think that I already scare my friends at "Livejournal" with them so I don't want to do that here too:)

Your various fandoms are more than welcome here Luna. In fact, I think I'll come clean about all of mine in a way that I don't at Livejournal so feel free.

That is such a lovely tribute video. He was so incredibly talented and a fascinating man. Peter was also absolutely adorable... that baby face, those big eyes, those hands! I'm sure you have seen it but I just love this clip

Oh Violet! I know that video sooooo well ;D I love the look on his face at 0:35. I get so annoyed at people that refer to him as creepy or a horror actor because he really wasn't! He was very capable of doing comedy, tragedy and even had the occasional romantic role (though sadly no screen kiss, except for grabbing Frances Drake in Mad Love).
I have to admit, at the moment, I am more or less in full Peter mode. He was naughtier than Dwight but no less fascinating and I think on the whole a decent, talented man. Thinking of making another Peter vid soon.

I love that expression on his face... and his voice, wow! I don't know how anyone could ever call him creepy or simply a horror actor. He was incredibly versatile, Peter could do anything! I love his comedic roles, he was perfection in Arsenic and old lace. Oh, he was dreamy in Mad Love. I just loved him in those long coats. Peter's biography, The Lost One by Stephen D. Youngkin, has been on my wish list for ages. Have you had a chance to read it? If so, I would love to hear what you thought of it. I would love to see another Peter video... your videos are always gorgeous!

I would love to see another Peter video... your videos are always gorgeous! I feel so bad for Dr Gogol in Mad Love. I very much doubt it will come on here but if you ever get the chance \i would reccommend Three Strangers. It's posibly the closest that here ever got to playing a romantic lead and he is very, very good at it. Yes I have read the Youngkin book. It's well researched and there are many good Peter anecdotes. However considering the length of it I did come away from it asking more questions than were answered. Personally I think the more personal aspects of his life were sort of brushed over and it focused on what the author was actually more interested in. I don't mean that I wanted to know all seedy details but I came away feeling that I still didn't really know PL that well, that much of the information was quite one sided. Having said that, this is just my personal opinion and I don't want to say too much more. I would recomend the book because it's the only one like it. There is a new PL book but it's very expensive and I think more academic in context.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on Peter's biography, Mrs V. I will definitely be getting it.
I have a 'Peter wish list' and Three Strangers is pretty much at the top. I had seen clips on YT and it looks amazing. It's really hard to find some of Peter's films, I was ecstatic when I managed to get copies of Der Verlorene and Crack Up. There is something about Peter, he's magnetic and I'm completely hooked. He also had the most adorable smile I have ever seen.

I have a reasonable Peter collection, BUT itr's the same DVD folder as my Dwight collection and the folder has mysteriously disappeared. Is there anything else on your Peter wish-list?

Oh no, you can't find your collections? I just purchased Mr Youngkin's book. I'm reading a great book about Houdini at the moment but will be finished by the time it arrives, I can't wait to read it. The academic book you were referring to, is that the 'Face Maker' book? It does sound really interesting but yes, very expensive... perhaps someday. I have quite a lot of Peter's films on DVD and several of his wonderful radio appearances on my iPod. There are still a few of his films that I haven't seen though, such as The Cross of Lorraine, Lancer Spy and some of his older German films... although I don't know if I could handle that level of cuteness! I have Vol. 2 of the Mr Moto boxsets but someday I need to get hold of the first volume along with Island of doomed men. Have you seen Hollywood Canteen? I have only seen a clip of Peter in it. I was wondering how big his role was and if perhaps the scene with the cigarette is his only one. Aside from his films, I love collecting vintage photos, especially from the thirties, so I'm always looking for more of those. I just got a gorgeous one from Crime and Punishment. I watched Stranger on the 3rd floor again last night, I love that film and Peter's performance... OK, I have to stop myself right there! Peter Lorre - the man who... made white scarves sexy. Do you have a favourite film of Peter's? Are there any films you don't yet have and would love to get hold of?

I don't know if I could commit myself to admitting a favourite Peter film but I do constantly watch Mad Love, Three Strangers, All Throught The Night, The Maltese Falcon... and others. I really liked Crime And Punishment, as well. Obviously M is an amazing performance. It's a pity it's not more remembered because I think it's not at all a bad adaption.
If you have freeview keep an eye out for Cross of Lorraine because I have seen it on film four on occasion, though Peter Lorre is rarely credited in the listings. It's also cut a bit because it's surprisingly violent with PL kicking Gene Kelly in the face then PL getting his throat cut.
The clip on youtube of Hollywood Canteen is all you see of Peter. A good appearance which was apparently written by himself and Greenstreet. Apart from M, I have sadly not been able to see Peter's early German films but am in the process of trying to purchase a couple... if my hubby lends me money.
Both The Verdict and The Mask of Dimitrious are available in their entirity on youtube, both very sexy roles.

I just checked and they are showing The Cross of Lorraine on Film Four on Thursday. I never watch TV... so that'll teach me! Thank you so much, I'm recording it and I'm so excited!! I love The Mask of Dimitrios and The Verdict, they're both excellent and Peter is fabulous (and sexy) as always. I also love Face behind the mask, oh he was wonderful. Janos is so sweet! Thanks for confirming about Hollywood Canteen. Mad Love is just amazing, I adore that film. Crime and Punishment is one of my favourite Peter films, he was incredible in it and utterly gorgeous. I so wanted him to get a kiss though! Marian Marsh was wonderful. I think she had an exceptionally beautiful face. My partner isn't a Dwight fan, I guess his style of acting isn't for everyone. He actually really enjoys Peter's films though. He thinks Peter is a great actor and doesn't mind my little addiction. I hope you are able to get the German films. I have seen a few clips of Die koffer des Herrn O.F. but I'd love to see more. I'm in the process of trying to purchase Three Strangers, a contact in the US says she has it... keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again Mrs V!

This is my latest youtube video. Sadly I've truly ran out of Dwight clips or rather couldn't see how I could recycle the same clips once again. However Peter seems to be providing me with some inspiration at the moment.

*sigh* I love this video, I have watched it so many times. I really like that you included so many of his roles that were more tender or humorous, those are my favourite. That sugar scene in I was an adventuress is just too cute for words. I wasn't aware that the popcorn in All through the night was Peter's idea. It was pure genius and makes the scene even more powerful.
