Oooh thanks for this. Very interesting case. I remember reading about this in one of my old film books. I'll try and find it and see if there was any more information.

Sidney Kirkpatrick wrote an interesting book about King Vidor's investigation of the crime. It is called "A Cast of Killers". Vidor came to the conclusion that Shelby did the deed. Although some compelling arguments were made, I wasn't totally convinced when I read the book. A better lead, imho, regards Taylor's attempts to help some of his friends kick their drug problems. It has been theorized that he was killed because he was interfering with the drug trade. I kind of prefer that explanation, even if it lacks the sensationalism of the Hollywood angle. This is part of a 1970 interview with Mary Miles Minter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpP9rF1KhLc

I agree woofy that he was upsetting the drug trade.

I agree woofy that he was upsetting the drug trade. But "boy bites dog" sells more newspapers than "dog bites boy," so the conspiracy theorist will have old Bill Taylor done in by everyone from Mabel Normand to Rin Tin Tin. The never want to let the facts get in the way of a good story...
