Well researched article, and I liked the shot of the home, even if the structure has been changed and added to since Dwight's family lived there. It's still the closest thing that we have to seeing his childhood home where he lived briefly before his family moved to Denver.

Very cool. It shows that Dwight stayed true to his Kansas roots.

Thanks for the kudos. I go to Denver a couple times a year. Has anyone looked into the Fry's address (or addresses) there?

I'm assuming that you're the author Ace- thumbs up for a great article and welcome to the forum, it's great to have you!
Unfortunately I have never been to Denver. I believe that Dwight's biography should list his childhood residence both in KS and CO. I "may" be wrong though as I haven't read the book in awhile now *hangs head in shame*. It would be great to discover and learn more about his time in Denver. I know that some members here have visited N.Y. and have been kind enough to share images of his apartments there. I also believe that Mrs. V located a shot of his high school in Denver too.

I wrote Dwight Frye's Last Laugh author Greg Mank and he responded he didn't know the location of Dwight's childhood home in Salina and that Dwight David Frye's family scrapbook did not have any childhood pictures of his father. So, I started researching and it was pretty easy to find the place.
I don't think Mank lists the Denver address in his book, but I could be wrong (I'm out of town and away from my copy of the book). I'll probably research Denver for a Halloween post on my blog in 2012, but if anyone wants to investigate, a good place to start would be the 1910 census, which should be accessible via various genealogy sites. A friend and I used ancestry.com to find the Frys on the 1900 census, which yielded the address, which was then verified through other city records.

I'll definitely look forward to that blog!
Thank you for the additional information as well. Again, I am not certain if the address is listed in the book or not, as it has been awhile since I last read it myself. I am guessing that when Dwight was a child photography was still a semi-expensive and rare art form, so the lack of childhood photographs do not surprise me. I may have saved some images that were shared with me of Dwight's various residences. I'll have to check my photobucket.

Hello Ace and welcome to the forum! I'm so happy you have joined as I really enjoyed that fantastic blog that you had written. Luna is correct, I believe I did locate a picture of Dwight's high school but it was torn down years ago and replaced with another building. I'll try and find that image, it was in the biography video I made for youtube.
Regarding his time in Denver... Luna, MM or Leah, I don't know if I am imagining this but cast your minds back a couple of years ago, didn't someone post a census from when Dwight was a child? I don't think it could have been the Salina census because I am sure it indicated they had a lodger or was that a census from later. I am sure I remember something...

You're absolutely correct Mrs. V! I believe that Leah posted the more recent census at her LJ. She found quite a lot on Dwight at one of those ancestry sites that she had signed up for. I think that I saved some if not all of it, as I said I need to check out my Photobucket! Maybe Leah kept it all as well?

I found these on my PC and thought they may be of significance to anyone interested in Dwight's childhood. West Side High School in Denver. Not sure whether this is the same building that would have been there when Dwight attended or not.

Excellent finds Mrs. V! Thanks for sharing:) I still need to browse my Photobucket to see if I can locate some possible early Dwight material.

Hello all, I'm off to Denver middle of next week and will stay a few days. I could probably photograph Frye's old home address if anyone has it. The high school doesn't interest me as much if it's not the same building as when he was there.

According to the 1910 cencus the Fry family lived at 179 South Cheroukee. BY 1920, it seems the family had moved to 1312 Weston Street- I think this must have been an apartment. I don't think the very, very rough research I have done the apartment still exists, I'm not sure about the 1910 address.
