I'm curious to see if any Nosferatu fans have seen this and what they thought of it.
Personally I thought it was a bit annoying in as much it felt quite like a fanfic but it was a good idea. However I did like Willem Defoe as Max Schrek (probably spelt that wrong), Eddie Izzard as the guy that plays Hutter and Catherine McCormack as a bitchy Greta Schoder.

Never seen this, but I heard that it is supposed to be excellent. I always had my doubts though, as it did kind of appear like an over the top fan-fic.

I've seen it. I thought it was pretty good. Here's a review on my blog: psychowardmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/06/shadow-of-vampire-2000whil.htmlI thought it was really good, except for the strange orgasm/whatever it was scene with Catherine McCormack. I didn't think it was like a fanfic at all; in fact, I loved the idea of Schreck being a real-life vampire. I was disappointed, as you'll read in my review, that they didn't show any scenes with someone playing Alexander Granach's character, Knock. Because, as you all know, I'm a big Knock/Granach fan!

Well I have never seen it- and while it did kind of come across as fan-ficy (if that is even a word!) to me, I would have to reserve final judgement until I viewed it:)

Good review Liz. I think the film started off well but I started lose interest about half way through and wasn't that mad on the ending. Thought Defoe was amazing and Eddie Izzard was funny. I might be wrong but I thought the implication with Greta character was that she was a Morphine addict or something, I can't quite remember. Perhaps my judgement was marred when I saw Cary Ewles and memories of Bram Stoker's Dracula came flooding back

Thanks a lot, Mrs. V., and yeah, my guess was that Schreck had control of her. I didn't like Eddie Izzard's makeup all that much though. Made him look like a clown.

Liz - Silent movies back then employed a lot of stage makeup. Pale skin and sunken in eyes. Just look at The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. And on a side note, even though people complain that silent actors overact, they have to do that in order to get their emotions across properly. It's just like stage.
Personally, I saw this film twice, and I loved it! I didn't consider it to be a fan fic, but an fascinating "What if ..." story. One person who've worked with Max Schreck have described him as living in a remote and strange world and that he spent time walking through dark forests. For all we know, Schreck could very well have been a vampire.
